The Maryland EMS for Children Department’s Child Passenger Safety Project, in conjunction with Janet Bahouth/Crash Core, and through funding by the Maryland Highway Safety Office, created resources to enhance Maryland EMS clinicians, firefighters, and 1st responders’ knowledge of motor vehicle crashes (MVC)and occupant protection in order to better:
- Assess a MVC scene for the crash scenario and how that affected the occupants
- Utilize crash scene cues along with physical assessment to determine the severity of injury
- Plan the patient’s treatment and transport from crash scene cues
- Accurately complete eMEDS on crash elements for a comprehensive assessment that could be used in future analysis/planning
